Back in the late Eighties it was quite common to see wild caught Honduran Boas in the Pet Trade. I personally brought in numerous shipments of them and stupidly overlooked their beauty because of the mass numbers that were imported each year. Well, Honduras was shut down to the Export of CITES animals ( All Boas ) in 1989 and that was the end of that. Luckily a few breeders held onto these beauties and have kept their bloodlines pure over the past 16 years. My adults came from Boas that were bred by Jack Dyer in California. I also have a few 2003 youngsters produced by Dan Mulleary of DM Exotics in Cali. All of these boas are pure Honduran and their colors are spectacular. The Bellies are Red ( hence the name ) and they also have alot of red on the sides of their bodies. They are extremely small boas and breed at around 4 feet in length. They like most dwarf Central American Boas start out a little nippy - but mature into calm shoulder pets. These boas are in my opinion one of the most under rated Dwarves in the Pet Trade today ( Probably due to lack of numbers ).
Update 09 - Doesnt look good for Fire Bellies this year. However - I expect better luck in 2010 as I have a few more breeders that will ciome into breeding age by then.
